Poemtober: volume 2 issue 4
Whaddup whaddup! It’s the penultimate issue of Poemtober, and baby, I’ve got some silly little poems for you all. All the poems are based on the daily Inktober prompts, and some are accompanied by illustrations in true Inktober fashion. I’m not a poet but I am a freak for posting online, so thank you for feeding my passion. Enjoy!
Moon
Did we go there?
What do you think?
I know you and I didn’t
But Buzz, and the gang?
Me too
-
What makes you say that
that my face reminds you of the moon?
Is it my acne, to-scale craters dotting across my skin
Or am I blindingly white?
Am I detached, faraway?
No?
I was joking anyway
-
Well if you ask me, which you didn’t
the moon isn’t particularly beautiful
Certainly a standout in the dark void
where the competition is light from our human eye
The stars small in comparison, no way we can assess their detail
like the moon
Winner by default
-
Is that it?

Loop
Do you ever think about something so much
Like death
and you panic
Or croissants
and then you eat two
Everyday
Never again, you say!
Maybe I’m meant to be scared
A panicked existence and if not
maybe I’d be boring
or worse
Be bored
Hungry

Sprout
I planted you and you grew
from a seed I tended
you returned your gratitude
through a bountiful harvest
I leaned down and thanked you
-
excited to share the gifts
I gave your offerings to any overturned hand
no one thanked you and soon you grew tired
you offered less and less, and so I did too
-
I tended to you and you grew
from a sprout I revived
you returned your appreciation
through a single gift, for me alone
I leaned down and asked when I could share

Fuzzy
You know the feeling
A thousand lovely little birds
Fluttering
And then it’s gone
As soon as it came
Am I at fault
Am I broken
The birds find a new home
A warmer one
I hope they stay
It’s better for all of us
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
Open
ha, good luck
unless there’s a spill
facts and information and family history
don’t cry over it
don’t get angry
they’ll use it against you
for what?
who knows, but they will
who is ‘they’
friends family that person at the party
I’ll clean this up, quickly
I’ll be more careful next time
good
good

Leak
Ground down in your left heel raise your right leg
That’s where I was when
The light rain became heavy and weighted
Slow down, you’re in a hurry
Right knee over right ankle hands to the sky
That’s where I was when
The rain invited itself in, squeezing through somewhere somehow
I stood, trying to figure it out
Climbing down the wall, refusing to tell me
Right hand moving the drying rack, the left touching the wet shirt
That’s where I was when
My landlord popped into my mind
I should let him know
But then what can be done
It’s an old house and besides
The entry point is nowhere to be seen
Upright, looking at the succulent, plump and healthy
That’s where I was when
I noticed I couldn’t feel my toes
Socked feet, fluffy socks, even
The people upstairs control the heat
I should let them know
It’s getting kind of cold downstairs
They may be comfortable though, or even warm
Sweaters piled up atop each other in the closet
I can wait until November, so soon
Supine, watching the ceiling do nothing
That’s where I was when
I dared to ask if I’d ever ask
For the wall to be dry and the warmth to envelop me
Feeling bold I’d asking if I am without fear
I’ll answer yes. That’s where I’ll be

Extinct
Won’t you miss the beauty
I’ll be long gone
But pay attention
Feel and Notice
Make sure to share a long goodbye
It’s no longer a see you later
